In this tutorial, we are going to add FAQ Schema in WordPress without a plugin. We will try to add FAQs using Google Tag Manager with the help of the online FAQPage Generator Tool.
Moreover, Most bloggers use Yoast or Rank Math SEO plugins on their sites so you will also learn to create FAQs using these SEO plugins too in this post.
Adding a FAQ is quick and easy using an SEO plugin rather than using Google Tag Manager (GTM) but we will try both methods.
Moreover, in this guide, we will cover
- What is FAQ Schema?
- How to add FAQs in WordPress?
- Online Tools to Generate FAQs.
- How to Validate FAQs?
- FAQ in Google Webmaster
- So on β¦
What is FAQ Schema?
A FAQ Page Schema also known as Frequently Asked Question Schema in a particular article is a list of questions followed by answers to the respective questions. When the FAQ Page is valid then it is eligible for rich results in Google SERPs.
The valid rich result in SERPs looks like this
Google primarily displays 3 questions only and it gives the ability to expand up to 10 questions in SERPs. Furthermore, if you have more than 10 questions then Google will attach the link to your website.
FAQPage Schema Guidelines
There are certain guidelines for FAQPage Schema that you need to follow on your blog. Keep in mind that there is a difference between FAQPage Schema, Q&A Schema, and HowTo Schema.
You can find a detailed FAQ Page Guideline here.
Note: You can only use one FAQPage Schema per page. Using multiple FAQ Schema is an invalid case.
1. Invalid Use Cases for FAQ Schema
- You cannot use FAQPage for advertisement purposes.
- A forum where there is user-generated content can submit answers to a single question.
- Any pages including the Product Page, Comment Section, and Support Page, where users can submit answers to the Single Question.
- An Author that truncates questions and answers instead of displaying full questions and full answers on the page.
- The FAQ Schema isnβt visible to the user on the source page.
- Using more than one FAQ Schema Markup on a page.
- Content that is hateful, offensive, profane, sexually explicit, graphically intense, advertisement of dangerous or illegal activities, etc.
2. Valid Use Cases for FAQ Schema
- A FAQPage must be written by the author itself, no users can submit the answer to the question in the article.
- A product page where there is a list of Frequently Asked Questions and no users are allowed to submit alternative answers.

How to validate FAQ Schema Page?
To appear your FAQ Schema page in SERPs, you need to validate your schema as it is the most important step. Especially, if you are using an online FAQ Schema generator then you have to be very careful regarding validation.
If you are using a plugin like Yoast, or Rank Math then you donβt have to worry much since they are top SEO plugins. They have their coding standards and they test every functionality within the plugin before pushing it live.
But validation is a critical step so letβs find out the tools to Validate FAQ Schema.
Structured Data Testing Tool: Since Google is deprecating the Structured Data Testing Tool, we are not going to use this tool for validation.
Rich Results Test: we are going to test our URL using the Google Rich Results Testing Tool. Here the testing tool offers two ways to validate the rich results. You can directly paste your article URL in a first way and in the second way, you can paste the code.
For the code section, go to your article and right-click on your browser and click View Page Source, copy the whole code, and paste it into the Code section of Rich Results Test Tool.
Here, we are going with the first method as it is easy to use.

FAQ in Search Console
I think every blogger has used Google Search Console a.k.a. Google Webmaster, a site where we track our website and site performance.
FAQ Menu
Here in Search Console, we can see a separate FAQ menu in the sidebar.
If you are using FAQ Schema in your article then in the FAQ section of Search Console, you can see if your error or Valid with warnings or Valid results for your article. You must get all your results Valid in this section, if there is an error or Valid with warnings then you must fix the schema in your article.
Webmaster URL Inspection
In another section in the webmaster, you can see if your FAQ Schema is eligible or not.
Go to URL Inspection
Enter your article URL.
Now go to Enhancements and you will see the FAQ section.
Here you need to have a valid item detected for FAQ.
Also, using URL Inspection in webmasters you can notify Google to index your article.
FAQ Rich Results in Search Console

Go to the Performance Tab.
Go to Search Appearance.

If you have any queries and FAQ schema then feel free to comment below.
Hi Suraj, Generatepress is recommending we remove the Generatepress Schema if we are using Rankmath – https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/how-to-add-claimreview-schema/#post-1405222
What do you recommend? Does it do any harm to keep the theme schema active while activating Rankmath schema?
Yeah, the lead developer, Tom is advising to remove the theme schema. so, remove it. If the same schema is used by Theme and SEO plugin then it is not good for SEO. Test your URL in Rich Result Testing tool and see if there is an error.
Hi Suraj, I don’t see any errors while testing on the Rich Results tool. My site is (Electricvehicleweb (dot) in) Would I be missing out on something if i disable the Generatepress Schema? What is your general analysis?
Nope, Rank Math uses JSON-LD Schema which is recommended by Google. So, you can disable GeneratePress Schema.
Wow! i’ve followed the steps you wrote and it worked. Thank you very much.
I’m using the Astra theme for my website CodeThreads[.]Dev The default FAQ block is only adding the FAQs at the blog post but not in the schema snippets. Please help.
Hi Brian,
